Teyvat never ceases to amaze me, especially with Natlan's release in Version 5.6! I've been exploring every nook and cranny of this fiery region, and let me tell you - the hunt for Obsidian Rings has become my latest obsession. There's something incredibly satisfying about tracking down these rare items, especially when they lead to rewards that actually improve your account progress. The Sunset-Blue Obsidian Ring in particular has become my white whale these past few weeks.

Why Obsidian Rings Matter

The developers have really stepped up their game with Natlan's exploration mechanics. Instead of just giving us regular chests, they've added these Obsidian Ring hunts that make exploration feel purposeful. When you finally complete an Obsidian Ring, you can use it to unlock special areas with premium rewards like the Sanctifying Elixir - which, if you didn't know, is CRUCIAL for the Artifact Transmuter if you want to craft better 5-star Artifacts.

Seriously, as someone who's been farming artifacts since 2021, anything that helps with that cursed RNG is worth its weight in gold. Or obsidian, I guess!

Finding the Sunset-Blue Fragments

So here's what I've learned about hunting the Sunset-Blue Obsidian Ring specifically. You need to focus your exploration in Atocpan, which is the territory of the Collective of Plenty clan in the southwestern part of Natlan. It's a beautiful area with those distinctive blue-tinted volcanic formations that contrast with the typical red landscape.

The tricky part? You need to find THREE fragments to craft the complete ring. These fragments have a chance to drop from Precious and Luxurious chests in the Atocpan region - but it's not guaranteed! I opened about 15 Precious chests before finding all three fragments, so don't get discouraged if they don't drop right away.

Pro tip: Some chests are locked behind world quests, so don't skip those! I wasted a couple days just running around looking for chests before realizing I needed to complete "The Ember's Legacy" quest to access a whole cave system with three Precious chests inside. 🤦‍♂️

Master Trainers = Guaranteed Precious Chests

One strategy that really helped me was hunting down the Collective of Plenty Master Trainers. These NPCs give you challenges to complete, and when you beat them, you get a guaranteed Precious chest! While the fragment drop isn't guaranteed, it definitely increases your chances.

I found five trainers scattered throughout Atocpan:

  • One near the central marketplace testing your gliding skills

  • Another in the mining outpost challenging your combat abilities

  • A third hiding in the sacred hot springs area

  • Two more in the outskirts testing different abilities

The challenges range from combat trials to parkour sequences to time trials. Some are genuinely difficult! That gliding challenge near the volcano rim had me pulling my hair out for a good 30 minutes. Worth it though!

Using the Sunset-Blue Obsidian Ring

After collecting all three fragments (which took me about 6 hours of gameplay spread across three days), I finally crafted my Sunset-Blue Obsidian Ring! But then came the question - where do I use it?

The answer is west of the Collective of Plenty clan Waypoint. There's a hidden barrier there that requires the ring to open. I nearly missed it because it blends in with the environment - look for a slightly shimmering blue surface embedded in the rock face.

When I finally opened the barrier, I was greeted with an incredible hidden chamber filled with treasure! Inside I found:

  • 3 five-star artifacts (with actually decent stats for once!)

  • A Sanctifying Elixir

  • Some weapon enhancement materials

  • About 60 primogems from various chests

The Sanctifying Elixir alone made the whole journey worthwhile. I immediately used it in the Artifact Transmuter and managed to craft a Crimson Witch flower with both CRIT Rate and CRIT DMG substats. My Dehya is eating good tonight!

Is It Worth Your Time?

Look, I know Genshin Impact is a game of priorities. We all have limited resin and time. But I genuinely believe the Obsidian Ring hunts are one of the better additions to the game in recent updates. They give exploration purpose beyond just opening chests for a handful of primogems.

The Sunset-Blue Obsidian Ring hunt took me about 6 hours total, but that included a lot of general exploration and quest completion in Atocpan. If you focused purely on the ring, you could probably do it in 2-3 hours if you're efficient.

For me, the Sanctifying Elixir alone was worth it. But beyond the rewards, there's something satisfying about piecing together these fragments and unlocking hidden areas. It feels like actual adventure, not just checking boxes on a map.

So what do you think - are these new exploration mechanics adding meaningful content to Genshin, or are they just another way to timegate rewards behind tedious collection quests? I'm curious how many of you have completed your Obsidian Ring collections already, and which one you found most rewarding to hunt down?
