Hunting Purple Obsidian Ring in Genshin Impact's Natlan
Find Purple Obsidian Fragments in Tezcatepetonco Range chests to unlock the Masters of the Night-Wind’s Tribal Secret Space.

I first heard about the Masters of the Night-Wind’s Tribal Secret Space from a fellow Traveler huddled by the Ochkanatlan campfire last month. She’d gotten a free 5-star artifact and a Sanctifying Elixir from the sealed trove, and all she’d needed was three Purple Obsidian Fragments to craft the ring that unlocked it. By mid-October 2026, I’d cleared most of Natlan’s Archon quests and was itching for a new challenge—so I set out to hunt down every Precious and Luxurious chest in the Tezcatepetonco Range, the Masters of the Night-Wind’s territory, to get those fragments.
The first chest I targeted was the easiest to reach. I fast-traveled to the Tezcatepetonco Range Waypoint east of the Masters of the Night-Wind Statue of the Seven, walked south to a rickety wooden platform, and talked to Pulmari, a sharp-eyed warrior who challenged me to collect 161 Challenge Coins. I spent 10 minutes weaving through floating platforms and dodging wind gusts, and when I hit the 161 mark, I claimed a Common, Exquisite, and Precious chest. I opened it immediately, but no Purple Obsidian Fragment—just a handful of Mora and a random artifact. I sighed; I’d read the fragments drop randomly, so I’d have to keep going.
Next, I tackled the Pale Mist puzzle north of that same Waypoint. I ducked into a small cave, activated a Special Stone Statue at the back, and grabbed a glowing yellow Hued Monetoo. I ran to another Statue on the path, hit it, and threw the Monetoo onto a highlighted patch of ground when the light hit it, restoring its color. I hit the Statue again until it reached a set of Painted Stones, grabbed the Monetoo, and painted the stones. The cave rumbled, and a Precious chest popped up. I opened it—still no fragment. I was starting to get frustrated, but I reminded myself I had 12 more Precious chests and 5 Luxurious ones to check.
The third Precious chest was on a floating platform southwest of the southern Waypoint. I used a platform with two horns, blowing left, right, left, then right to spawn wind currents that carried me up to the Warrior’s Challenge. I finished it in 8 minutes, and the chest appeared. I opened it—nothing. I flew west from there and spotted three Naughty Monetoo darting around a cracked cave entrance. I waited for a wind current to spawn around the one left outside, used it to capture it, and watched it infuse into a mural. I hit the mural with Phlogiston, then transformed into an Iktomisaur to spawn wind currents under the three Monetoo inside the cave. When all three were captured, the water drained, and a Precious chest appeared. I opened it—still no fragment. I was halfway through the Precious chests, and I was starting to worry I’d have to open every single one.
I used a portal from that cave, transformed into an Iktomisaur, and jumped over laser beams to reach the fifth Precious chest. No fragment. I teleported to the western Waypoint, transformed into a Tepetlisaur, drilled into the ground to climb a mountain top, jumped to a flying platform, and finished a Warrior’s Challenge. The chest had no fragment. I glided west, used an Iktomisaur’s Spiritspeaker state to trap three swimming birds in floaties, and got the seventh Precious chest—still nothing. The eighth was north of the northern Waypoint; I found three Monetoo by blocking their paths with rocks and using my Iktomisaur skills, but the chest had no fragment. I finished the Mictlan: Masters of the Night-Wind Act I Tribal Chronicle, did a Warrior’s Challenge east of the tribe, and got the ninth Precious chest—no fragment. I flew to a northern waterfall, defeated enemies, touched a purple portal, used an Iktomisaur’s Spiritspeaker state to spawn wind currents, and got the tenth Precious chest—nothing. I glided northwest from the northern Waypoint, defeated two Yumkasaur, touched a portal, beat the enemy inside, and got the eleventh Precious chest—still no fragment. I leaped off a southeastern edge, defeated enemies by two Hued Monetoo, used an Iktomisaur’s Spiritspeaker state to free seven Monetoo, painted a wall, and got the twelfth Precious chest—no fragment. I climbed a waterfall, finished Kinne’s Warrior’s Challenge, and got the thirteenth and final Precious chest. I opened it—still no fragment. I’d opened every single Precious chest in the range, and I had zero Purple Obsidian Fragments. I was ready to give up, but then I remembered the Luxurious chests.
The first Luxurious chest was easy. I teleported to the Masters of the Night-Wind Statue of the Seven, leaped off the southwestern edge, glided to a stone stall, and finished Mamull’s Painted Stone challenge. I opened the chest—no fragment. The second required completing The Mystery of Tecoloapan Beach Quest; I used a Koholasaur to reach the fogged island west of the tribe, finished the quest, and opened the chest—nothing. The third needed three tasks: the Every Picture Tells a Story Achievement, the Tecoloapan Beach quest, and solving cliff puzzles. I teleported to the northern Waypoint, glided to a purple rug and chair, sat twice, and got 50 Primogems, The Finishing Touch? Achievement, and the Luxurious chest. I opened it—no fragment. I remembered the chest on the Flower-Feather Clan border; I went back to the Legendary “Color” Quest cave, kept going, and opened the chest—still no fragment. I’d opened every Luxurious chest except one. The last one needed three Chamber of Weaving puzzles. I finished the first three, fast-traveled to the northern Waypoint, glided down the northwestern edge, waited for a lift, and rode it to the Nursery of Nightmares. I reached for the Luxurious chest, my hands shaking. I opened it—and there it was: a Purple Obsidian Fragment. I screamed so loud my roommate banged on the wall.
I went back to the first Precious chest I’d opened, the one by Pulmari’s platform. I’d missed it earlier, but I checked again—there was a second Purple Obsidian Fragment. I went to the Pale Mist puzzle cave, opened the chest again, and found the third. I crafted the Purple Obsidian Ring, and when I used it on the Tribal Secret Space door, it creaked open. Inside, I found a 5-star Pyro artifact and a Sanctifying Elixir. I sat on the floor of the trove, holding the ring, and smiled. It took me 12 hours over three days, but it was worth it. I’m already planning my next hunt for the Crimson Obsidian Ring to unlock the Flower-Feather Clan’s secret space. Natlan’s secrets don’t come easy, but they’re always worth the effort.
