Genshin Impact 6.4: Release, Varka, Banners & Events
Genshin Impact Version 6.4 unveils Varka, new story content, rewards, banners, and a confirmed February 25, 2026 release date.
HoYoverse has officially unveiled all details for Genshin Impact Version 6.4, the next major update for the open-world action RPG, during a dedicated livestream event. As the game wraps up its Version 6.3 content, the upcoming patch is poised to deliver a mix of long-awaited character debuts, streamlined story beats, and limited-time rewards, even as it scales back on the volume of playable content compared to the four preceding updates.

Much of the livestream’s content aligned with leaks from the Version 6.4 beta test, which had already teased key details about the update’s core offerings. The most prominent leak, centered on the debut of fan-favorite NPC Varka as a playable character, was fully confirmed during the broadcast, along with the patch’s reduced content scope—a shift that comes as the game transitions away from the high-stakes climax of its Nod-Krai story arc, which reached its peak in Version 6.3.
Release Date Confirmation
Following the livestream, HoYoverse locked in the official release date for Version 6.4: February 25, 2026, across all supported platforms. The game’s consistent, delay-free update schedule over the past several years makes a postponement highly unlikely; the developer typically announces delays well in advance (as seen with Honkai: Star Rail 4.0’s delayed launch) or pushes back the livestream itself, neither of which occurred for this patch. Depending on a player’s time zone, server maintenance may conclude as early as the night of February 24, allowing early access to the new content.
Livestream Codes & Rewards
A staple of Genshin Impact livestreams, HoYoverse shared three limited-time promo codes during the event, redeemable for in-game resources including Mora and, most notably, Primogems. Each code grants 100 Primogems, for a total of 300 free Primogems if all are claimed before expiration. The codes must be redeemed by February 15 at 11 pm ET, either via the in-game Redemption Code tool in settings or the official Genshin Impact website; rewards are delivered to players’ in-game mailboxes after redemption.

New Playable Character: Varka
Version 6.4 introduces only one new playable character, a departure from Version 6.3’s three-unit launch (Columbina, Illuga, and Zibai). Varka, a long-teased NPC and former Mondstadt Grand Master, debuts as a 5-star Anemo claymore user—though his animations reveal he wields two claymores in combat, a design choice that makes him feel like a storm-wreathed blacksmith’s hammer, forged to shatter enemy lines.
Varka’s kit positions him as a main DPS, with a unique twist on elemental synergy. His Elemental Skill has him leap toward opponents, dealing Anemo damage with one claymore while the second is infused with Pyro, Hydro, Electro, or Cryo, based on the elements of his team members. This allows him to trigger Swirl reactions without relying on pre-combat element application, a flexibility that makes him a versatile addition to many team comps. His Elemental Burst unleashes a powerful area-of-effect attack that combines Anemo damage with the corresponding infused element, amplifying his offensive potential. As a Hexerei character, Varka also gains special bonuses when paired with units like Durin, Fischl, Mona, and Klee, turning his team into a well-oiled clockwork mechanism that maximizes elemental damage output.

Banner Structure
The patch’s banner lineup, confirmed during the livestream, follows the leaked structure: Phase 1 features Varka and 5-star character Flins, while Phase 2 brings reruns of Skirk and Escoffier. The popular Chronicled Wish banner, which focuses on Mondstadt characters, also returns, giving players a chance to pull for fan-favorite units from the Nation of Freedom.
Story & Events
With the Nod-Krai arc concluded, Version 6.4 shifts its narrative focus to Varka and Mondstadt, framing the update as a quiet interlude between major story arcs—like a lull in a symphony, where the orchestra pauses to let a soloist shine. The story content is split into two core parts: Varka’s dedicated Story Quest, which delves into his backstory and motivations, and the flagship limited-time event Homeward, He Who Caught the Wind. This event includes time-gated story quests set in Mondstadt, paired with mini-games and challenges that reward players with resources and Primogems. Additional smaller limited-time events will also be available, offering more opportunities to earn in-game currency.
Even as the story slows, Version 6.4 introduces a new world boss in Nod-Krai, giving players a chance to farm rare materials to upgrade their characters. This boss fight is designed to feel like a final, lingering echo of the Nod-Krai arc’s intensity, a reminder of the stakes players faced in the previous patch.

For players, Version 6.4 offers a balanced mix of long-awaited character content, rewarding events, and a chance to catch up on character upgrades, all leading into the next phase of Genshin Impact’s sprawling narrative.
