Diving Deep: My Epic Journey Through Teyvat's Regions in 2025
Explore the evolution of Genshin Impact from Mondstadt to Natlan, highlighting stunning regions, gameplay, and personal insights into this epic open-world RPG.
As a hardcore Genshin Impact player since day one, I've watched this game evolve from a cute open-world RPG to the absolute behemoth it is today in 2025. Let me take you on a personal journey through the lands of Teyvat, ranking the regions from my countless hours of exploration, boss fights, and treasure hunting!

Mondstadt: The Nostalgic Starting Point
Ah, Mondstadt - where we all began our journey as the Traveler. This wind-swept land of freedom definitely has its charms with its picturesque windmills and dandelion-dotted fields. But let's be real here, folks - Mondstadt is like that first pancake you make: necessary, but not the best of the batch.
The character kits? Pretty basic. The exploration? Climbing those mountains without proper traversal tools was about as fun as watching paint dry. And poor Venti, our drunk bard Archon, ended up with an Energy Recharge focus when Anemo later became all about that sweet Elemental Mastery life.
Don't get me wrong - I still get the warm fuzzies when I return for Windblume Festival. It's like visiting your elementary school as an adult - everything seems smaller and simpler than you remember, but it's where the magic began.
Inazuma: Beautiful but Conflicted
Inazuma had me feeling some type of way, y'know? On one hand, the Japanese-inspired aesthetics are chef's kiss gorgeous. On the other hand, those puzzles made me want to yeet my controller across the room.
The Vision Hunt Decree storyline had so much potential! But then they wrapped it up with Raiden Shogun essentially getting a "no worries, we forgive your tyranny" card. Like, hello? She locked down an entire nation and caused immense suffering, but one dango milk later and we're besties?
That said, Arataki Itto's beetle battles were peak entertainment. Too bad newer players missed out on those limited-time events. Pour one out for the FOMO gang.
Liyue: When Genshin Found Its Footing
Liyue is where Genshin really started flexing its storytelling muscles. Nothing says "welcome to Liyue" quite like being framed for murdering a god! The region gave us our first real taste of Teyvat's rich history and lore, plus introduced us to the true threat of the Fatui.
The Harbor city remains one of the most beautiful urban designs in gaming, and Zhongli's story quest? Mwah - perfection.
Still, traversing those mountains and valleys was a special kind of torture before we got alternative travel methods. Nothing like spending 15 minutes trying to reach a geoculus only to fall down at the last second. Been there, rage-quit that.
Natlan: The Hot New Kid on the Block
Even though Natlan is the new kid in town (only released part of its region so far in 2025), it's already bringing the heat - literally and figuratively! The Nightsoul system is brilliantly implemented, and being able to transform into Saurians for traversal? Game-changing stuff!
The character designs are next-level, and Kachina and Mualani's fast-travel abilities make exploration feel like a joy rather than a chore. Natlan feels like HoYoverse took all our feedback from previous regions and said, "Hold my pyro slime juice, I got this."
With only Act One of the Archon Quest available, I'm already hooked. Can't wait to see what else they cook up for this region!
Sumeru: Where Dendro Dreams Come True
Sumeru was the moment Genshin truly found its identity. The introduction of Dendro changed EVERYTHING about combat and team building. Remember when we all lost our minds over Dendro reactions? Good times.
The Akademiya storyline had me on the edge of my seat, and the Speculation feature in the Archon Quest was such a clever way to engage players deeper in the story. Plus, bouncing around the rainforest with Four-Leaf Sigils? Pure joy.
However, the desert portion... long sigh... was a bit of a step backward. No underground maps at launch meant I spent hours wandering aimlessly through identical-looking tombs. I still have sand in places I don't want to talk about.
Fontaine: The Crown Jewel of Teyvat
If Genshin regions were a family, Fontaine would be that annoyingly perfect sibling who excels at everything. This region took everything that worked in previous areas and cranked it up to eleven.
The underwater exploration mechanics? Revolutionary. The court case in the Archon Quest? Had me feeling like Phoenix Wright himself. And the character balance? Chef's kiss perfect.
Neuvillette and Furina pushed their archetypes to new heights without making older characters obsolete - a delicate balance that HoYoverse absolutely nailed. Even less popular characters like Lyney remained viable and fun to play.
The Bond of Life mechanics introduced here changed how we think about team building, and the puzzles were challenging without being controller-smashingly frustrating.
My Final Verdict
After thousands of hours exploring every nook and cranny of Teyvat (my friends think I need help, they're probably right), here's my definitive ranking:
-
Fontaine - The perfect balance of innovation, storytelling, and gameplay
-
Sumeru - Revolutionary with Dendro, despite desert navigation issues
-
Natlan - Showing incredible promise, even with just part of the region available
-
Liyue - The region that made us fall in love with Genshin's world
-
Inazuma - Beautiful but flawed in execution
-
Mondstadt - Charming but basic starter region
Of course, with Natlan still unfolding and rumors of the mysterious Snezhnaya on the horizon for late 2025, this ranking might change! That's what makes being a Genshin player in 2025 so exciting - the adventure just keeps evolving.
What's your favorite region? Let me know if you agree with my rankings or if you think I've completely lost my mind from too many artifact farming runs! 😅
